NYPD goes antiquing on the Upper West Side

So I guess the cops did a random raid of a school on the Upper West Side. They went looking for weapons and whatever; and since public schools also prohibit cellphones and other electronic devices, the NYPD came up big.

But, what the hell are some of these phones? Are kids bringing their moms cordless home phone to school to try and fit in? Was this "Bring Your Dads Old Car Phone To School" Day at I.S. 54? Is this pic from 1997?
