Former Met Goes on Bat-Wielding Rampage!

José Offerman has been in baseball for nearly 20 years. He's played with the Dodgers, the Royals, the Red Sox and most recently the Mets in June of '05.

Primarily an infielder, Offerman earned as much as $6M in 2002. But since May '07, he has been playing for the lowly Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League, earning less than $4,000 a month and hoping that at age 38 he could get back to the big leagues.

Well, José has now been charged with two counts of second-degree assault after hitting the Bridgeport Bluefish pitcher and catcher with his bat during a game. After being removed from the game, Offerman was arrested by the Bridgeport Police. Offerman posted $10,000 bond and is due in court on 23 August.
