For some reason Gothamist decided to interview (and I use the term lightly) the President of the NY Church of Scientology, John Carmichael. They asked him a bunch of BS. It was a pathetic
"interview" which reads more like he's filling out an FAQ questionnaire for his own website.

Q: Recently a couple, Theresa Duncan and Jeremy Blake, killed themselves. They had mentioned the Scientologists following them - do you have a comment on this?

A: It's especially tragic when creative people take their lives - their delusions were certainly bizarre.

You can read the whole thing here

in one article i read the "journalist" asked a scientology spokesman if theyd been harassing or stalking or a part of a conspiracy to attack theresa and jeremy--come on--if they were do you think theyd admit they were involved in such illegal activity? ---i think scientolgists and unscrupulous gossip "journalists" are getting alot of mileage out of this whole thing--perhaps is some insight into some of what theresa and jeremy were struggling with--what a shameful mess--i wish them peace----

Exactly. I found it odd that Gothamist interviewed that guy now. Like, why now save for the TD story? It was a bit random and really, the only thing worth asking right now would be about TD & JB. That felt more like an FAQ, like an advert interview for the CoS...which was lame and biased. I dunno, I don't get it. I love that the whole religion is based on a sci-fi book though. That's classic. Gothamist is too nice thats all. They try to be everyman too much. It's too pleasant. I like some cynicism and sarcasm in my coffee.

The Church of Scientology traditionally pays for this kind of press, always with conditions that certain questions not be asked.

As I've stated before, this trashing of Blake and Duncan is a smear campaign to discredit their claims of being trashed and harassed. Besides the bitter pills named Kate Coe and Christine Nichols, harassment by the Church of Scientology, it's minions in Hollywood, Anna Gaskell's Mr.Cownie are all probable. On the Gaskell Cownie equation, Duncan expressed comments that included references to Dick Cheney. Duncan's upcoming article, which she was working on when she died, would have revealed things these people did not want dicussed.

It's too convenient for these people to call Duncan and Blake paranoid.

Additionally, it would not surprise me if Jeremy Blake's step father, Arthur C. Delibert, was concerned about Duncan's comments, as he is situated smack in the middle of the finance world in DC. Theresa's last blog comment on July 10 indicated her priorities:

"A need to tell and hear stories is essential to the species Homo sapiens--second in necessity apparently after nourishment and before love and shelter. Millions survive without love or home, almost none in silence; the opposite of silence leads quickly to narrative, and the sound of story is the dominant sound of our lives, from the small accounts of our day's events to the vast incommunicable constructs of psychopaths." --Reynolds Price

Perhaps there is more to tell and that is why the attacks on this couple are so viscious.

The most revealing article to date is a recent one, with comments by Fr. Morales about the couple, especially about their last day together. It's enlightening:
"Artists’ double suicide casts a pall at St. Mark’s' By Lincoln Anderson of NYC's 'Villager'

The scientologists are having a heyday with manipulating this Blake & Duncan story via the internet. The church has learned from it's critics that the internet is a valuable source to discredit it's opponients. The interview with Carmichael is more proof of a smear campaign.

The Gothamist infomercial of scientology makes me want to know what Theresa Duncan was writing about Dick Cheney and more of what Jeremy Blake wrote in his claims about being harassed by scientology and certain scientologists.
