I look like a preacher today or one of those lunatics that goes door-to-door ringing bells and stuffing tracts in mailboxes and door hinges. Thick white textured tie, light purple shirt. Walks with destination on his heels. Never wanders. There must be 8 billion people out there today. So many faces. Eyes meet sometimes, body parts and clothing, too. Some just pass. I wonder if anyone thinks like this the same way. Wishing for that one face...

"All the lonely people... where do they all come from?"

Where that energy goes I'll never know. It's like a machine. Like those things at the airport, the moving sidewalk. We're on a conveyor belt, no cogs in the machine. It's just wild theres so many people. Everyone has a problem; the end of their personal world. some are happy, some are miserable. Sometimes on the bus I'll have my headphones on and I'll try to find someone who's strut is in time with the rhythm of the beat in my ears and when they sync up its amazing to watch like a personal music video I've directed a bunch of these, some of them are quite good. Gonna go see about a piano tonight. That would really tie the room together. I am devouring this new Zevon book, it's wonderful. I wish I read slower, thats when you know a book is damn good.

"Never thought I'd have to pay so dearly... For what was already mine"

I could count cobblestones and just dream. I wanna go drink by some railroad tracks in the woods somewhere. Need someone to do that with. Everyones leaving town. I wanna watch the trains leave town with someone that wants to stay

"We made mad love, shadow love
Random love and abandoned love
Accidentally like a martyr...
The hurt gets worse and the heart gets harder"

I love the calm before the storm here before the market opens that unknowing silence people drinking iced coffee, casually reading the newspapers weather.com on their monitors the calm before the inevitable storm... that silent rumble of anticipation its intoxicating to me. everyday, its the same. I actually got excited yesterday when I heard 1010 WINS forecasting the weather for Saturday. for that means the weekend is soon I like working, I'm hard wired for routines and hard work, no matter what it is I'm doing put my head down and just go for it I don't know how I traveled for so long, I'm really such a homebody A creature of habit. I like the same bed every night but I miss the hotels. I like a shower every morning but I miss the crowds screaming our words back at us. I can't believe we played Cape Town, South Africa and people actually knew who we were Now I just wish I had her to come home to My bed gets bigger and bigger every night. But it's a small town. Hope she'll come around

Time marches on
Time stands still
Time on my hands
Time to kill
Blood on my hands
And my hands in the till
Down at the 7-11
Gentle rain
Falls on me
All life folds back
Into the sea
We contemplate eternity
Beneath the vast indifference of heaven

The past seems realer than the present to me now
I've got memories to last me
When the sky is gray
The way it is today
I remember the times when I was happy
Same old sun
Same old moon
It's the same old story
Same old tune
They all say
Someday soon
My sins will all be forgiven

Gentle rain
Falls on me
All life folds back
Into the sea
We contemplate eternity
Beneath the vast indifference of heaven

They say "Everything's all right"
They say "Better days are near"
They tell us "These are the good times"
But they don't live around here

I had a girl
Now she's gone
She left town
Town burned down
Nothing left
But the sound
Of the front door closing forever

We contemplate eternity
Beneath the vast indifference of heaven

I wanna go drink by some railroad tracks in the woods somewhere
Need someone to do that with

and this song came into my head:

Last night I went and bought myself a bottle
Like we used to do
Reminded me of you
That's when I saw the a train roll by the river
Blowing off its steam
Reminded me of me
That's when I threw the bottle in the River
That's when I started heading for the train

(you will get 10 more points if you know the song & artist - which should be easy for you)

a bittersweet (emphasis sweet) morning rumination. enjoyed reading it.

I did the same thing the other day in the grocery store with my iPod. I think the other shoppers, if they noticed me at all, must have thought I was a bit loopy. I didn't care though, as they all looked good to my soundtrack. 'kidnapped by neptune' has an excellent beat for stalking the aisles to.

i also agree about slowing down the reading for a good book. i think that's one of the (many) reasons i enjoy detective novels, as they tend to come in a series and when they are really good, you can stay in that world just that bit longer and still finish the book quickly in anticipation of finding out who done it & why.

I love Concrete Blonde. They're a band I constantly forget about and then rediscover over and over again. I have a little Concrete Blonde renaissance and then I forget them and on and on it goes. Right now, we're in the heat of a serious renaissance. Like, I might even listen to "Joey" and not laugh. Well, OK, it hasn't gotten there yet but its definitely a revival.

you know what sucks about joey*? the music is perfect; the lyrics are woeful. and even more so, when the song gets in your head, you end up singing along.

i always disliked the fact that something like 'what's going on' became so popular while the real thing, ms johnette, was left by the wayside. god, what a voice.

concrete blonde renaissances aren't a bad thing at all. you've made me want to dig out the old tracks.

so that's you with 20 points now.

* i never like songs with names in them. keep the personal universal when you're sharing, that's what i think.

Yeah the song isn't bad AT ALL but the name is. She should've picked something a bit more cryptic or cosmic. "Joey" just makes me think of Joey Lawrence. Imagine the song if she were singing to a guy named Sherman or Vito hahaha

vito, don't be angry, i've got the money, i know you've heard it all before, don't break my legs, LOL

actually, upon looking at the lyrics now, they aren't entirely woeful. to be fair. but the whole joey thing ruins the good ideas in them.

Haha yeah, I went back and re-read them too :) and well, they are a bit high schooly but "Joey" just kills it. If she was singing to someone else I don't think we'd use such a magnifying glass. Just get rid of that "Joey" and its not bad. Who was she singing to anyway? Who was Joey? I never knew... or was it fiction?

i figure it's true - no idea who its about - uh, joey, yeah - but highschooly as they are, there's a ring of truth to them. i guess thats why despite joey the song was their biggest. wasn't it? and isn't that always the way of it, too?

Oh, totally! I wrote a thing about that a while back... like I love my Concrete Blonde but hate my "Joey", etc. I realised it was true for a whole mess of bands that I like...a real phenom!

Which reminds me I need to do an update because I've realised a few more that ring true...

mediocrity rules, ok?

like 'perfect day elise' being a big seller for pj harvey. wtf? that song sucks. she's so much better stuff.
