Don't believe in modern love...

"I catch a paper boy
But things dont really change
I'm standing in the wind
But I never wave bye-bye
But I try, I try
Theres no sign of life
Its just the power to charm
I'm laying in the rain
But I never wave bye-bye
But I try, I try
Never gonna fall for
Modern love - walks beside me
Modern love - walks on by
Modern love - gets me to the church on time
Church on time - terrifies me
Church on time - makes me party
Church on time - puts my trust in God and man
God and man - no confessions
God and man - no religion
God and man - don't believe in modern love"

If you're ever watching TV and a commercial comes on and you're wondering who it is, this site is absolutely priceless. It will help you find what you're looking for and get some sleep.

So last night I was watching some BS on Discovery or the History channel, and they kept running this teaser for some maudlin new special on TLC "Diana: Last Days of A Princess".

Anyway, the track in the commercial is a cover of David Bowie's "Modern Love", which just so happens to be my favourite Bowie track, and its done by an NYC group called The Last Town Chorus which features vocalist Megan Hickey. Her voice is haunting and breathy and creepy and country and folk all at once. It's beautiful. And their cover of Bowie's "Modern Love" is damn near perfect. It takes balls to cover Bowie, but they seem to have pulled it off, effortlessly. They did a video for it as well. It's here on You Tube.

Here's some shameless gushing from their unabashed band bio:
"The distorted cry of a lap steel guitar slices through the Brooklyn night. A voice sings with aching sweetness and strength. Caressing melodies are barbed with stinging solos. This is the sound of The Last Town Chorus - the revolving ensemble led by singer/writer /lap-steel-guitarist Megan Hickey - whose singular approach to music has beguiled writers from The New York Times, SPIN, The Washington Post, ELLE, Uncut, Sunday Times (UK), among countless others. "
They've got two NYC shows coming up as well...

For free on 24 August @ The South Street Seaport Festival with Camera Obscura and again on 30 August @ The Bowery Ballroom, w/Mark Olson (original Jayhawk)
