Mastodon Guitarist Injured In Mysterious Post-VMA Incident ...
"Brent Hinds, who 'doesn't recall much,' was inebriated at time of assault; suffered broken nose, other injuries."
While details surrounding the incident are still a hazy shade of winter, Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds suffered whats being described as a "severe head injury" in an incident that took place sometime after the VMA's early Monday morning. Brent remains under physicians' care in a Las Vegas hospital but is expected to make a full recovery.
According to Las Vegas police, Hinds was wasted at the time of the assault. Witnesses and security camera footage of the incident point to Hinds as the instigator; police said he'd removed his shirt and began hitting his assailant with it before he was knocked to the ground.
Vegas Detectives are investigating the incident, but no charges had been filed at press time. Cops say a man by the name of William Hudson was the one fighting with Hinds but they did not have any more information about the man. Perhaps he was one of Captain Ahab's boys?
"Hinds' nose was broken, and he sustained two black eyes." Yes MTV, thats what usually happens when you break your nose. It's like peanut butter and jelly.
The incident occurred at around 3 a.m. Monday morning, after the band had finished one of the highest-profile performances of its career — a guest spot in the Foo Fighters' suite during Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
Mastodon performed their single "Colony of Birchmen" with Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme.
"Thankfully, it seems he's going to make a full recovery. All I know is he had a bad head injury, broken nose and blacked-out eyes and he doesn't recall much", said the bands manager, Herman Melville.
