Marc Ecko bought the Bonds ball

Pop culture prankster/ philanthropist / fashion designer and all around decent dude Marc Ecko won the auction for Barry Bonds' Hank Aaron record breaking HR ball. Ecko paid $752,467 for HR ball # 756 at an auction recently.

But now the fate of Barry Bonds' record-breaking home run ball is in the public's hands.

Ecko said today he was taking votes on whether to donate the ball to the Hall of Fame, brand it with an asterisk and then send it to Cooperstown, or blast it into space. Go here to vote.

Ecko himself said he voted to brand the ball with an asterisk, a reference to the belief of some Bonds detractors that his record is tainted by his alleged use of performance-enhancing substances. Bonds has denied knowingly using performance-enhancing drugs.

Ecko said what really interests him is seeing what happens when an "American Idol" approach comes together with a serious public debate over drugs in sports.
