Thoughts on the phrase "In Short" from a friend

"I just need a minute to complain about when U.S. Supreme Court Justices use the phrase "in short." (Or actually anyone really, it just happens that the only reading material I have had any time for or access to in the last year and a half has been cases...)

When I read the phrase "in short" I get the distinct impression that you are saying something SHORT, i.e. something that can be said in one sentence...maybe even in just a couple of words.

So, WHY THE HELL IS IT THAT I READ THIS PHRASE AFTER SLOGGING THROUGH 30 PAGES OF ABSTRUSE OPINION, IF ALL THAT ESOTERIC BULLSHIT CAN BE DISTILLED INTO ONE DINKY LITTLE SENTENCE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

OK, that's all.
