Chief Brody Has Died

Who didn't love this movie growing up? Actor Roy Scheider was Police Chief Martin Brody. And he saved Montauk; made The Hamptons safe again.

Well Chief Brody died yesterday after battling multiple myeloma for several years and suffering complications from a staph infection. MM is a type of cancer inside plasma cells which are immune system cells in bone marrow that produce antibodies; it basically makes you immune to your own goddamn antibodies.

He was 75 and had been living in Sag Harbor, New York for many years. He was originally from New Jersey.

What have we learned? If the sharks don't get you, cancer surely will. Fuck.

What, no mention of Blue Thunder? Used to watch this just about every Sunday morning on Channel 9 in the late 80s/early 90s.

Yeah, I miss the old WOR-9 and WPIX-11 Saturday and Sunday movies.

There used to be 6,000 commercials per movie and each time they'd come back from spots they'd highlight a different star.

i.e.:

"And now back to Blue Thunder starring Roy Scheider."

7 minutes later...

"We now return to Blue Thunder starring Warren Oates and Daniel Stern."

5 minutes later...

"We now return to Blue Thunder starring Candy Clark and Malcolm McDowell."

But the ultimate - ULTIMATE Saturday Afternoon movie had to be "The Wraith" with Clint Howard, Charlie Sheen and Randy Quaid and I forget who else.

I remember being home sick watching that movie and it felt like bad acid. My earache was pulsing and Clint Howard was spinning in this kaleidoscopic whirl.
