09 March 2008

Met with a very old friend yesterday for a few bottles of wine and Fudgie the Whale. Dusting off and then flipping through the catacombs of our minds with stories of then and the parallels of now. He to film and motorcycles, and me towards music and writing.

They're building an exquisite corpse of a film and he's asked me to write his chapter with him. He is one of 18 up and coming directors chosen to contribute. I've never written for film before and so needless to say I can't wait to get started. Today I'll shop for a proper beret. Nordstroms perhaps?

The 'exquisite corpse' technique was invented by The Surrealists in the 20's and is similar to an old parlour game called 'Consequences' in which players write in turn on a sheet of paper, fold it to conceal part of the writing, and then pass it to the next player for a further contribution.

Tuesday night we'll meet with some fancy people who will surely live on a very high floor of a very tall glass building with an elevator that opens up into their living space. They will learn us what is to be the beginning and end of our story. We then must provide the middle.

Let's hope all those years spent renting bad horror movies, mocking art films and listening to Bauhaus will pay off.
