Inside scoop: Al Pacino to play Salvador Dali in new film

The movie, which will span the 1960's-80's, follows the time in Salvador Dali's life when most of his great work was behind him and he became more flamboyant. This is when Dali also developed a mentor-protégé relationship with a young art dealer named Stan Lauryssens.

Andrew Niccol is directing the film based on Stan Lauryssens' famous autobiography, "Dali and I." You may or may not know Andrew Niccol from his work on Lord of War, The Terminal with Tom Hanks, S1m0ne, The Truman Show and Gattaca.

Cruising star Al Pacino will play Dali and Cillian Murphy is set to play Lauryssens. The part of Gala, Dali's wife, has yet to be cast.

"Dali" is scheduled to begin shooting in early 2008 on location in Spain and New York.
