It wasn't anything special just an occasional occasion
A little gray rabbit near the Greyhound Bus Station
Across the street from the Misfits show
It wasn't hard to get high because we started so low

When they'd hit the stage we'd steal all their food
No heat in the van on those cold nights without a clue
Following the Prevost through the dust and storm
Knocking on club doors "Can you let us in so we can get warm?"
There were days when you wondered when it would end
But then its show time and tomorrow you do it all again

Backstage changing strings and watching the hours tick by
I was on the Brooklyn Bridge, I saw the towers die
I guess before then being safe was just an illusion
And now we're all puppets in the land of confusion
Sure, there were days when you wondered when all would it end
But then the next day you got up to do it all again

I got friends in Europe who throw Molotov cocktails when they get upset
But over here there wasn't anything going on but the rent
I pay too much for cable and I can't find a parking spot
My friend Christian saw his friend Klaus in Berlin get shot

We slept in a dusty squat, deep in the hills of Basque
We asked for the toilet and they just laughed
In the morning we stole avocados and bread
Just get me to the next club before we're dead
Sure, there were days when you wondered when all would it end
But then the next day you got up to do it all again

Send my rent home, brother, can you spare a stamp?
I haven't felt so alone since sleep-away camp
On the beach in Perth, can we swim to the Bali shore?
Just then I woke up and I was in France somewhere on a floor

In the snow touch down at JFK
I feel better than I felt yesterday
But after a few days back home you feel lost
Pull out your map and shake your head at that zigzag cross
